Private water supply versus city water supply (cont.)![]() There is good evidence to suggest that the presence of fluoride does reduce the risk of tooth cavities, but equally, there is strong evidence to suggest that consumption of fluoride presents serious health risks including cancer, thyroid problems, brain damage, increased risk of hip fractures, an increase and build up of lead in children's blood leading to behavioral problems, and permanent unsightly tooth mottling, again especially in children. Fluoride occurs naturally in nature of course, but it is the quantity and type of fluoride added to our water supplies which may be cause for concern. Fluoride toxicity is higher than lead and only slightly less toxic than arsenic. Furthermore, the fluoride used in our water supply is not pharmaceutical grade; it is fluorosilicic acid - a toxic waste substance derived from phosphate fertilizer factory chimney scrubbers. As we are of the opinion that brain damage, cancer and death is a high price to pay in exchange for nice shiny white teeth, we feel that further investigation is certainly warranted. For those who wish to investigate these findings further, and to read reports to help you better understand what risks fluoride may present to you, your family or your community, please look here, here and here Independence Whilst problems with our mains water supplies in the UK are rare, they do occur. This often results in no water or water that must be boiled before use and in some cases is rendered totally unusable. Additionally, mains water is prepared with a cocktail of additives which we are told is to ensure quality suitable for consumption. In addition, a significant charge is levied for this water, the cost of which can go up at any time. Having your own private supply therefore has many distinct advantages. Under current legislation, a private water supply may draw up to 20 tones of water per day without the need for a water extraction license. Choosing to have your own private water supply also means that you are bringing to the surface natural mineral water, free from any chemical additives. Once a water composition analysis report has been created from a sample, highly effective filtration systems can be installed to ensure that the water is clean' from any contaminants, biological or chemical and is now ready for use, and for drinking. Having your own water supply means your water is effectively free, the only costs being the installation and the cost of maintenance of your system. This cost is typically a very small fraction of the cost of buying in water from a mains supplier. Properties in remote areas In some parts of the British Isles, mains water isn't available. Somewhat ironically, these more remote areas are often the very places where high levels of natural ground water exist. For anyone who lives in these remote places they are already using private water supplies. But for those considering moving to an area, say of exceptional natural beauty, tucked away from mainstream life which has no city water, don't despair. South Coast Water can provide you with your own borehole and pumping system either for your exclusive use, or to be shared by a community.Whether you are a private individual who wants to draw his own water as part of an eco experiment or for shear pleasure, or if you're a community who wants to provide water for 10, 50, or 100 homes or more, or a farm looking to save yourself ££££'s per year, South Coast Water can design and install a system for you.
